ABOUT
Appledowns is a 100 year old 'workmans' cottage, situated on an acre, in the heart of Waihi. The cottage is nestled in amongst mature oak trees and surrounded by various Camellia's, Dogwoods and fruiting trees.
In amongst it all there are two courtyards, one to relax in the morning sun while sipping your coffee and the other to enjoy your dinner, surrounded by iceberg roses, beside a cozy brick fireplace.
INSIDE APPLEDOWNS
Inside you will find two bedrooms filled with natural light coming in through the French doors and windows. A cozy lounge to rest and relax in after a full day of exploring. Beside a dining room opens out onto the large outdoor patio area for meals in the summer and can be closed up for the winter with a wood fireplace.
A fully furnished kitchen, laundry and bathroom, with views of the back yards native and fruiting section.

Our established gardens include free range chickens, fishpond, kids pirate tree house amongst the native flora. Various fruiting trees including apples, grapes, figs, pears and assorted plums.

THINGS TO DO
Karangahake Tunnel Walk
Karangahake Tunnel loop walk is a must do walk, taking you along the Ohinemuri River and over the lower Waitawheta River where you will be amongst New Zealand native flora.
Cornish Pumphouse
Standing high above the town, this landmark relic is a stark reminder of the hard graft and engineering that built Waihi back in the day. Walk around the pit rim and across the road to the Gold Discovery Centre for more of the story.
Owharoa Falls
The stunning staircase Owharoa Falls are nestled in the heart of the Karangahake Gorge. Ideal for a picnic stop while doing the Hauraki Rail Trail, or a photo op detour. Instagram magic.
Windows Walk
Part of the network of walks in the stunning Karangahake Gorge, with framed views out into the mining heritage sites, and the sparkling stream below.
Orokawa Bay Walk
This walk takes you to a beautiful Pohutukawa lined beach.
